About: The Man Behind the Music: Meet Elijah Ligue
Up and coming rap, R&B and pop artist, Elijah Ligue, has been working his entire life to pursue his innate and personal passion of music. To see the performer we see today, we have to know there is more than meets the eye – there is an entire life of devotion and dedication to the art of musical writing, production, and performance. That’s why today, it’s time to learn more about Elijah Ligue.
The Young Pianist
At just 8-years old, Elijah started to learn how to play the piano at his school, St. Charles, in Bloomington, Indiana. Playing recitals often, Elijah loved nothing more than the hot stage lights pouring over his hands as they moved in tandem with the piano on stage.
While playing the piano, his family moved around – a lot. Predominantly schooled at private catholic institutions, when Elijah was finally thrust into the public schooling life, he admits he was scared, uncomfortable, and socially awkward. These difficult times challenged him to stand up for himself, speak with more confidence, and hone in on his natural skills.
Landing at the Lighthouse Christian Academy, Elijah felt he had finally found the school that was meant for him. However, later in his junior year, he received word that this family was being evicted from their home. The Hendricksons took him in so he could stay within the school district. His best friend, Nathan Hendrickson, didn’t want him to leave a place he felt to conducive to his happiness and belonging, so he told his parents. One thing led to another, and the offer changed Elijah’s life.
Living with his best friend, creative juices started to flow. The two launched FocusedMusic, a YouTube channel where they would make piano videos and sing, rap, and produce. Nate would film, Elijah would play. With so much positive feedback, the two wanted to take their musical project farther. Come 2018, they started writing songs together, with Elijah predominantly rapping over a chorus written by Nate.
Together, they studied the Beatles, Queen, Michael Jackson, and all of the other greats, bleeding into Elijah’s cross-genre music hailed as revolutionary today.
From Disaster Comes Realization
Elijah went onto attend Huntington University in 2019. However, a bike incident left him with a concussion, unable to focus in class. He withdrew, and didn’t know what else to do. Fortunately, everything changed when Elijah found a program at Azmyth recording studio in Indianapolis. He started to produce his songs there, eventually applying to work there.
Once he started to work there, he began to hone in on that craft that he had adored all those years ago. One thing led to another, and the solo artist of Elijah Ligue was born.
From adversity comes imagination; from hardship comes epiphany; and from hard work comes stardom. Elijah is an example of what’s possible if you choose to see the opportunity in every scenario. Don’t let the obstacles inhibit your progress – let them encourage you instead. Elijah has.
